She is the niece of theatre great Safdar Hashmi. Born into a theatre family, Azad performed with Safdar Hashmi’s theatre group Jana Natya Manch in their stage productions since a very young age, where she worked with Habib Tanvir, MK Raina, GP Deshpande and NK Sharma. She also trained in dance forms like Odissi, classical ballet, jazz, Latin as well as contemporary dance forms. Traveling with her Odissi guru, Kiran Segal, she performed in and outside the country including England, Canada and Nepal. Her stint with cinema started after schooling when she landed a lead role in a short film Guroor for director Ishaan Nair which travelled to festivals in New York and Florence. She has since gone on to work in many short films. Saba Azad is a prime example of “one person wearing many hats” as she is an actress, musician, and theatre director. Saba grew up in Delhi where she started her journey as a theatre artist right after finishing her schooling. Saba Azad is the niece of Safdar Hashmi, a communist play writer and director. Belonging to a family with a theatre background, Saba took part in Safdar Hashmi’s theatre group, Jana Natya Manch. In the theatre group, she worked with Habib Tanvir, MK Raina, GP Deshpande, and NK Sharma; giving her great exposure to the world of arts and theatre. However, she ended up liking the haircut and was satisfied with her makeover. The electric duo, Madboy/Mink, has been working together since 2012, and they have together performed in several cities across India. In 2013, Imaad Shah made it public that the duo had been living together for a year, and their common interests led to the beginning of their relationship.
